Tired of your screen going dim while you're trying to watch Netflix? Do you want to read a lengthy article without constantly having to wake up your iPhone or iPad? This article will teach you how to turn off the auto-brightness feature in iOS 12 and take control over when your iOS device goes to sleep. Read on to find out how to turn off auto-lock and auto-brightness in iOS 12.
In a previous update, Apple bravely hid the controls for toggling auto-brightness on or off. This has proven to be an annoyance to users who prefer to control the appearance of their screen, especially when the iPhone is being used for entertainment purposes. We've uncovered the lost controls for both auto-lock and auto-brightness so that you don't have to dig.

How to Turn Off Auto-Brightness
To turn off the auto dim feature in iOS 12, follow these steps:

- Open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Tap Display Accommodations.
- Toggle Auto-Brightness to turn the feature off.
You can turn this feature back on at any time by following the steps above and toggling Auto-Brightness to the off position.
How to Turn Off Auto-Lock
In addition to going dim, your iOS 12 device is set to automatically lock after one minute. While this particular setting won't affect your Netflix viewing, it will affect your reading. If you don't want to have to continuously tap your screen to keep the device from locking while you read the morning paper, then you might prefer to turn off auto-lock or at least delay the feature. Here's how to turn off or delay auto-lock:

- Open Settings
- Tap Display & Brightness
- Tap Auto-Lock
- Set the lock feature to a time which works for you. The timer goes anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to Never. Keep in mind, if you set your iPhone to Never Auto-Lock then you'll want to avoid accidentally leaving your screen on and running out the battery.
That's how you turn off auto-lock and auto-brightness in iOS 12 to avoid having your screen go dim automatically. Now you can enjoy your movie viewing and book reading without all the hassle.

However, when the iPhone goes to sleep (screen goes off) the wifi connected is automatically turned off to save battery and the whatsapp on my browser disconnects. Is there a way to force iPhone to keep wifi connection up when locked and/or asleep?

I have the same iPhone and the same problem. I just went into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Then reconnect to your wifi like normal.
This worked for me, however if the problem is still there, maybe turn your data off when using wifi. Hope one method works for you (:

I had this problem at my local school where every time I locked my iPod I lost connection to wifi, so I developed an app called 'Constant WiFi' which keeps me connected even if my iPod is locked. I am not familiar with 'whatsapp' but my app forces the wifi to stay connected when the device is locked or asleep. If you decide to try the app I hope it works for you!

I have iOS 11.2.1 on iPhone 6 (Verizon), and my wifi connection dropped every time the phone slept, and it always took a moment to switch back from LTE to wifi upon waking, which was so annoying.
What seemed to solve the problem for me was to configure my router to assign a fixed 'allocated' IP address to my phone based on its MAC address.
If you have the ability to configure your LAN router, you could try that. For everyone else, it seems Apple has abandoned you.
P.S. I was inspired by this post.

You can easily stop your iPhone or iPad screen from turning off automatically or increase the auto-shut off time, in case you are bothered by how quickly your iPhone goes into sleep mode while you are still in the middle of using it.
iPhone Screen Auto-Lock Feature
Your iPhone or iPad by default is set to turn off or go into sleep mode after a certain period of inactivity. This setting is designed to conserve battery life and it also reduces the chances of unauthorized access to your device, in case you leave it unattended.
As you must have noticed, your iPhone is smart enough to automatically disable sleep mode whenever you are performing activities like watching a movie or a music video.
However, for most other activities the default auto-lock setting is one minute, which can get quite annoying in case you find yourself constantly having to unlock your phone while you are still in the middle of using it.
Note: While in sleep mode, your iPhone can still connect to the Internet, get calls, receive messages, and run apps in the background.
Stop iPhone Screen From Turning Off Automatically
Follow the steps below to stop your iPhone or iPad from going into sleep mode, so that you can keep using your device without any interruption.
1. From the home screen of your device, tap on Settings.
2. Next tap on General.

3. Tap on Auto-Lock (See image below).
4. Select Never to prevent your iPhone screen from turning off automatically (See image below).
Instead of completely turning off the Auto-Lock feature, you can try to increase the duration before which the sleep mode kicks on your device by setting the Auto-Lock to something reasonable like 2 minutes or anything that suites your requirements.
Note: Keeping the Auto-Lock Setting to “Never” makes it prone to the possibility of unauthorized use in case you happen to leave your phone unattended.
